Process
Surface Solutions Ltd would like to take this opportunity to explain our basic process. We normally find that once a customer has an understanding of our product, there is usually more than one area that we are able to add value to their home or help with a solution to a problem area they may have in both domestic and commercial situations.Whether the base is concrete, particle board or fibrolite either inside or outside the process is the same.
Preparation - First we prepare the surface, this may be anything from crack repairs, waterblasting, grinding, levelling, waterproofing or even laying new concrete in some areas, this work is called preparation. A job is only as good as the preparation work carried out, so this part of the process is extremely important.
Crack Repairs - Cracked concrete is repaired with using epoxy and Fibreglass.
Waterblasting – Cleaning and removing moss, mould and other dirt and grime.
Grinding – Grinding high spots, rough concrete, breaking the surface tension for the product to bond.
Levelling - Concrete areas that have dropped, unlevelled areas, exposed concrete, building up of areas for water to run off.
Waterproofing – Basement areas, concrete decks, wet areas ie: Kitchens, bathrooms, laundries, rumpus areas.
So now we look at the coating system. It is a cement base with resin. We mix the product up in a 20 Litre bucket, much like mixing a cake. At this point we add the colour blend, then pour the mix out and trowel the area all over. Drying times can vary from 2 hours to 5 hours depending on temperature, sun, and humidity. Once the area is dry we sand the whole area and apply special tapes to any size or pattern which determines the pattern you have chosen. The tapes are then sealed. The top coat is then mixed up and coloured and is then trowelled onto the whole area again. This is left for 1 day to dry completely. The area is then sanded and then the staining is applied. Tapes are then lifted exposing the grout lines and we then apply 2 coats of glaze or sealer to complete the job.

With Surface Solutions, the process generally takes three to five days depending on the weather and temperatures. In the summer months it is quicker and easier than in winter because of the higher temperatures. When starting an area we need a good adhesion for the product, this is obtained by water-blasting, grinding, then priming. Next is crack repairs and levelling. When this is completed, we have a good sound base to work with. The process is then split into three different ways to give you more options for achieve the look you require
